Frankincense is one of the oldest documented magical resins–it’s been traded in northern Africa and parts of the Arab world for nearly five thousand years. 

According to the Hebrew Bible, frankincense was a component of the holy incense ritually burned in Jerusalem’s sacred temples during ancient times. The ancient Greeks and Romans also imported massive amounts of the resins, which they burned as incense.

Today it is used in traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda and aromatherapy. A small bit of frankincense resin goes a long way, filling the space with a sweet, honeyed aroma and an abundance of positive vibes. For centuries, frankincense has been revered for its ability to both cleanse and elevate the energy around it.

Frankincense grows on the Somali coast and the Arabian Peninsula. Harvesters have to make a deep cut into the trunk of a tree and remove a piece of bark to allow the sap to drip out. It usually takes about three months for the sap to harden into the resin that we use. A tribe in Somaliland gathers this frankincense resin.

HOW TO USE YOUR FRANKINCENSE RESIN:

We recommend that you use Charcoal disks when burning your Frankincense resin. Place your charcoal in a safe dish -you can also fill a bowl with rice, sand or use an incense burner if you have one. Add some salt on top of the charcoal disk for a slow burn. Using a lighter or match, light the charcoal until you can see flickering ambers all over it. Then, place a couple pieces of resin atop the charcoal disk.
