Myrrh has been burned in sacred spaces for thousands of years — in the temples of Jerusalem, in Eastern medicine, in rituals of purification and prayer. Its scent is deep, warm, and resinous, with an earthy sweetness that grounds the room and quiets the mind.

A Resin with Ancient Roots

Myrrh comes from trees of the genus Commiphora, native to Northern Africa and the Middle East. It appears in the book of Exodus as an ingredient in the holy anointing oil, in the book of Esther as a purification agent, and in the Song of Solomon as a perfume. It was also a key component of Ketoret — the sacred incense blend burned in the early temples of Jerusalem.

In Eastern medicine, myrrh is valued for its restorative properties. The scent is said to uplift the spirit and support the nervous system.

How to Use

  • Place a charcoal disk in a heatproof dish, bowl filled with sand or rice, or an incense burner
  • Add a pinch of salt on top of the charcoal for a slower, more even burn
  • Light the charcoal with a match or lighter until you see glowing embers across the surface
  • Place 2–3 pieces of myrrh resin on top and let the smoke rise

What It's Good For

  • Meditation and breathwork — the deep, grounding scent anchors the mind
  • Yoga practice — creates a focused, ceremonial atmosphere
  • Spiritual rituals and space clearing
  • Aromatherapy and nervous system support
  • Shabbat and ceremonial use
